IMSA shares the limelight with IndyCar at the Detroit Grand Prix, with the sports cars and GT machines racing on Sunday (AEST) and the open-wheelers on Monday (AEST).
At its biggest endurance events, IMSA features four classes – GTP, LMP2, GTD Pro, and GTD.
However, for the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic, only the fastest GTP and GTD Pro competitors will take to the narrow streets of Detroit.
For fans unfamiliar with the naming convention, GTP is the terminology IMSA uses for what the FIA World Endurance Championship calls Hypercar.
Both GTD classes are for GT3 homologated cars, with the two GTD classes divided by all-Pro and Pro-Am driver line-ups.
Mostert will join Vasser Sullivan Racing in the #14 Lexus RC-F GT3 alongside Aaron Telitz.
The team will field two entries with Jack Hawksworth and Ben Barnicoat in the #15 sister car.
Sunday’s race is also 100 minutes, making it one of the shortest races on the calendar.
“I’m so excited to have the opportunity to race for Vasser Sullivan,” said Mostert.
“I’ve raced in the (United) States a few times and always thought that the team looks so professional and like a tight-knit family so it’s an honour to be able to race for the team.
“The Lexus RC F GT3 car looks incredible, and I can’t wait to get my first laps.
“I’m new to the Toyota-Lexus family and being able to get this opportunity being an Australian driver is very much a pinch yourself moment.
“I can’t wait to get to Detroit! I love street tracks and am looking forward to the challenge.
“I can’t thank my Supercar team, Walkinshaw TWG Racing, enough for allowing me to compete.”
Telitz said he is looking forward to working alongside Mostert.
“Really looking forward to teaming up with Chaz (Mostert) on the streets of Detroit,” said Telitz.
“It’s always a lot of fun to race with someone new and Chaz brings a ton of experience on street courses from racing in the Supercars Championship.
“Can’t wait to grab a trophy with him this weekend!”
